PCYC needs to front up about Castle Hill plans

-

I READ an article ( TB, 22/ 10) about councillors touring the new youth hub at North Shore.

Good for North Shore to have an area for youth.

I believe the PCYC Castle Hill will be relocating to this area.

I previously read an article where Major- General Smith was appointed as Townsville Community Champion to look at preventing youth crime. In his report he states early intervention and a social hub was necessary to steer youth from juvenile crime.

He also mentions Garbutt and Rasmussen as areas of concern.

There are PCYCs in both areas, so why move the Castle Hill one from Garbutt to North Shore with low or no youth crime in the area?

I fear for the closure of this centre as it provides so much activity for so many groups. I think PCYC has lost focus on it being a youth and community based organisation.

I also hear the child care may remain. I suppose it makes money.

I suggest the Townsville City Council and the PCYC take a long hard look at what is happening.

I am a member of PCYC and believe I am entitled to know what is proposed for our centre.

It has been very secretive and there is a lot of speculation as to what might happen to the centre.

I ask the council and PCYC to come clean and tell us what is proposed for the future of PCYC Castle Hill. FAY CROW, Railway Estate.
