BRONCOS L OCK IN BENNY ENCORE

- PETER BADEL

BRISBANE bosses insist Wayne Bennett will not have his contract torn up after Anthony Seibold was yesterday unveiled as the super coach’s successor at the Broncos.

Brisbane’s board voted unanimously for Seibold, who has clinched a four- year deal that is worth an estimated $ 3 million to coach the Broncos until the end of 2023.

However, Brisbane hierarchy made it clear Seibold’s contract will commence from 2020 – effectively scuppering speculation the Broncos and Rabbitohs would complete a straight swap of coaches immediately.

Souths boss Shane Richardson has no issue with Seibold honouring the final year of his deal in 2019, while Bennett is adamant he will embark on a Red Hill swan song next season.

Broncos CEO Paul White will not sack Bennett and lauded the acquisition of Seibold, who edged out Kevin Walters, Michael Maguire and Jason Demetriou in a four- way fight for the job.

“We have done a thorough due diligence and as a result we have got the best person for the job in Anthony,” White said.

“Anthony is one of the best young coaches in the game and having him for 2020 is a huge win for our members, players, staff, sponsors and fans.

“Planning is well and truly underway for next season and we are expecting big things from the team – it’s a season we can all look forward to.”
