Trafficker gets day in court
AFTER some courtroom confusion a woman who allegedly ran away from her last date with justice only to be arrested outside a Townsville pub will remain behind bars until she is sentenced for drug trafficking.
Candice Bo Allen pleaded guilty to trafficking dangerous drugs when she faced Townsville Supreme Court in August.
She was granted bail and was set to be sentenced on October 10 but despite arriving at court and talking to her legal representatives that day, she allegedly fled the courthouse.
Allen was arrested in the carpark of Tom’s Tavern at Aitkenvale on Thursday afternoon.
She was held in the Townsville Watch House overnight and faced the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon where some confusion arose.
Defence lawyer Phil Rennick, representing Allen, told the court his client would not be applying for bail, only for Allen to call out from the dock saying she would be.
“There seems to be a difference of opinion,” said Justice David North.
After a brief consultation with his client, Mr Rennick reenforced that Allen would not be applying for bail.
“Ms Allen maintains her plea of guilty to the ( trafficking) charge,” Mr Rennick said.
Allen is alleged to have trafficked methamphetamine and the Bulletin understands the prosecution intended to seek a sentence in the vicinity of five years’ imprisonment. She is set to be sentenced in December.
