Push to retain library funding

A COALITION of teachers and librarians are ramping up their advocacy ahead of a campaign launch to keep school libraries wellresour­ced.

The Students Need School Libraries Campaign, was formed to defend them from having their funding cut, and to remain wellstaffe­d.

St Clare’s Catholic School Burdell teacher- librarian Mary Hosking said all children deserved to have a library.

“It’s the case when they have a safe place to go and develop in their learning,” she said.

“It can right book having a member.

“I personally love libraries because they have such a lovely effect on kids, and I’m passionate about books and children developing that be getting the for a child and passionate staff ability to learn lifelong.”

Ms Hosking said some schools were not replacing the funding, instead funnelling it to other areas.

“We need quality resources to benefit our kids … I think a library can allow a child to discover a whole lot of the world,” she said.

“Children enjoy the lifelong learning and it can really provide a great start at the beginning for a child in an informatio­n- rich environmen­t.”
