Nick’s thinking big with his schnitzels

- TESS IKONOMOU

RESIDENTS craving a hearty schnitzel can head down to Dandy Schnitzels at Stockland North Shore shopping centre.

The newly opened store offers something traditional and contemporary for all tastebuds.

Owner Nick Raichart moved to Townsville with his family from Sydney in a bid to escape the rat race.

He said there was a strong demand for good chicken schnitzels here.

“When I came to Townsville in January, I realised everyone loves schnitzel, every pub has schnitzels,” Mr Raichart said. “What’s not to like about them?”

Originally from the Czech Republic, Mr Raichart said he was cooking them in the traditional European way.

“We use really good quality meat, we grind it, we crumb it well to make it crispy on the outside so people get crazy,” he said.

“A schnitzel for me should be very simple, nothing too fancy and people come in and love it.”

The menu includes a standard parmigiana as well as a meal with a Slavic touch, a homage to Mr Raichart’s roots.

All of the massive schnitzels come with a side of salad and chips, and for those not after a schnitty there are beef burgers available too.

Now living in Burdell, Mr Raichart and his wife drove a car to Port Douglas and back to Sydney, stopping in Townsville and deciding they wanted to live here.

Mr Raichart said he would continue to expand his businesses in the city.

The new business will not stop at one store either.

Another Dandy Schnitzels store will open in Bushland Beach and will be a licenced premises.
