World’s beautiful for Mat
WITH new material, an incredible line- up and fresh from a run of successful European performances, The Beautiful Girls are headed to Townsville.
Frontman Mat McHugh, along with long- time musician Paulie B and drummer Bobby Alu, who performs with the likes of Xavier Rudd, will deliver their Beautiful World tour full of old favourites sprinkled with new content.
The Beautiful Girls are no strangers to Townsville, but are making their first trek back to the region for a few years.
“It’s been a little while, we all love it up there,” McHugh said. He said his most recent European tour was so successful the band was driven to deliver the same experience to Aussie audiences, as well as test- drive new songs.
“It was awesome, so much fun musically, we’re all really close mates and the band sounded insane so with the new song and with that lineup, we had to take this back to Oz,” he said.
“It’s a proper band experience where everyone is feeding off each other on stage.
“The music industry kind of wears you down, it’s all smoke and mirrors and nonsense. But we’re musicians first and foremost and the act of playing music together with people that you enjoy is inspiring, that’s what I’m getting most excited about for the tour.
“We’ll play all the songs people know and love with some new stuff added in. It’s a really good show and I don’t always say that before tours. I think people will enjoy it.”
McHugh has spent the better part of the last decade living and working internationally, and said summer tours in Australia almost felt like a holiday and gave him the chance to spend more time with his seven- year- old son.
“I didn’t want to be that dad that was always on the road, so I made a conscious decision to set everything up around him,” he said.
“He and I get pretty bummed out when I have to go away for extended periods because we’re really close, but the good thing about touring Australia in the summers is it’s just the weekends and we get to go home.
“We started creeping back in, doing little bits and pieces, and it’s been unreal.”
