Townsville’s Most Influential revealed
THE full list of Townsville’s Top 50 Most Influential people will be revealed in the Bulletin tomorrow.
The Bulletin has been counting down the list online at townsvillebulletin. com. au this week with numbers 11- 20 revealed today.
The top 10 and full list of 50 will be published in a special edition of the Townsville Eye magazine inside tomorrow’s Weekend Bulletin.
Women made up 34 per cent of this year’s list of the region’s biggest influencers, but the top 10 is an exact 50- 50 split between the sexes.
Business and development was the overwhelming theme of the countdown, with 48 per cent of all entrants spanning the category.
Council and politics was the next most popular at 20 per cent, followed by sport and education.
The majority of this year’s most influential people also featured in last year’s list, with 76 per cent returning compared with 18 per cent of first- time entrants and 6 per cent of re- entries who missed out on being one of Townsville’s most influential last year but have featured on the list previously.
There has been a fair share of climbing up the ladder and sliding down the snake, with some influentials finding themselves at opposite ends of the list compared with 2017.
Herbert MP Cathy O’Toole was this year’s most improved, launching from 45th place in 2017 all the way up to 14th spot as revealed online today. Townsville Fire legend Suzy Batkovic wasn’t far behind, jumping 21 places up from 42nd place to 21st.
Deputy Mayor Les Walker took out the biggest decrease, dropping from a respectable 16th place in 2017 to only just sneaking into the 2018 list in 50th spot.
Three entrants stayed in exactly the same ranking as last year — one being radio legend Steve “Pricey” Price in 36th spot, and two others still cemented in the top 10.
Exactly who and where they’re placed will be e revealed tomorrow.
In October we called for nominations for the list. We then compiled a list of nominations and recruited a panel of judges. The judges were asked to, anonymously, number their top nomi- nees from one to 50 and a points system was used to determine the order.
