Man arrested in travelling crime spree
POLICE have arrested a man allegedly involved in a string of crimes that stretched from Tully to Townsville.
Senior Sergeant Geoff Bormann, the officer- in- charge of Ingham Police, said a 39- yearold Ingham man broke into the Hinchinbrook Shire Council works depot in Townsville Rd on Tuesday night.
“The man broke into the complex before stealing a council utility and a large amount of equipment,” Mr Bormann said.
“Police located the man and the stolen vehicle and equipment at a rural property at Bambaroo.”
It is understood the vehicle was fitted with a GPS tracking system.
Mr Bormann said that during a search of the property, officers discovered a small amount of dangerous drugs, and a trailer, hand tools and power tools stolen from Townsville recently.
Paul Robert Colson appeared in the Townsville Magistrates Court facing a total of 25 charges. Police objected to bail and he was remanded in custody until January, 2019.
Mr Bormann said the charges included breaching a domestic violence order, assault, disqualified driving, evading police, obstructing police, stealing and other traffic offences in relation to a separate incident that occurred in Tully in September.
“The apprehension of the man and the recovery of the property was great work by local uniformed officers but would not have been possible without the assistance of staff from the Hinchinbrook Shire Council works depot,” Mr Bormann said.
