Top of the world after noble race win

- TRENT SLATTER

HE’S gone from playing around in the backyard with a remote control car to racing against the world’s best.

Townsville’s Caleb Noble has exceeded even his own expectations to be crowned the junior champion at the IFMAR Off- Road World Championship in Perth.

Caleb set a cracking pace as the top qualifier for the junior final and he led for the first three laps before dropping back to fourth after a crash.

The Jensen youngster kept his com- posure and worked his way back to the lead before refuelling where he got caught up in pit lane which set up a thrilling battle to the finish line.

“It was pretty nerve- racking ( when he crashed), but you’ve just got to keep going,” Caleb said. “It takes a lot of concentration and a lot of focus. I didn’t really expect to win. I thought maybe I could finish third. It feels good to win.” Caleb has enjoyed a rapid rise since entering his first race when he was just six years old.

He was also crowned Australian junior champion earlier this year.

Proud dad Russell said he encouraged Caleb to do all his own mechanic work on the car which had made his success on the world stage all the more impressive after finishing 55th overall.

“I think he prides himself on that and it’s huge for his age. We don’t see anybody else in the pits that has that kind of dedication,” Russell said.
