Arrest after paramedics assaulted

-

A WOMAN has been granted bail after assaulting two paramedics while they were trying to treat a patient in Townsville.

Police were called to an address in Gulliver just before 6am on Thursday after a 40year- old woman allegedly attacked two ambulance officers who were treating a patient.

Mundingburra Police officer- in- charge Senior Sergeant Graeme Paterson said it was unknown if the alleged offender was a family member of the patient. “Unfortunately when they ( paramedics) were trying their best to treat a patient, another person has come in and assaulted them in the course of them doing their duties,” he said.

“The ambulance officers had to reassess the situation, police have attended and a person has been arrested and charged with two counts of serious assault.”

Sen- Sgt Paterson said the paramedics sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation.

“The message that we’ve said with our colleagues in the QAS is that any attack on any emergency service worker, especially ambulance officers out there trying to treat people and stabilise them to get to hospital for further treatment, is totally unacceptable,” he said.

The 40- year- old Aitkenvale woman was granted bail when she appeared in court yesterday, and will reappear next month.
