REALITY BITES FOR ROOSTER

- MICHAEL CARAYANNIS

VICTOR Radley was the only Roosters premiership winner to return to training last week. The 20- year- old watched on as housemate James Tedesco packed for one last grand final celebration when he headed to LA and Las Vegas with a host of fellow Roosters.

Instead of partying it up in the bright lights of Vegas, Radley was brought back to reality when faced with another gruelling pre- season.

“I only get six- week breaks because I’m young and have only done one pre- season,” Radley said.

“All the older boys and those who were in international camps get a few extra weeks. When Teddy ( Tedesco) was packing I was a bit like ‘ I wish I was coming’. Hopefully in five years when I’m 25- 25 I’m allowed to go.”

Even if Radley had been granted permission to go he would have been reduced to spectator on occasions because of America’s no drinking until 21 law.

With a host of big name players still absent, Radley suddenly saw himself as a senior player when the Roosters returned.

He was joined by new recruits including Brett Morris, Ryan Hall and Angus Crichton.

“I’m used to feeling like the young kid,” Radley said. “But with all the 20s boys ( training) and a couple of the older boys missing, I do feel a bit older. It feels a bit weird.

“It went so quick the six week break. I was away most of the time. I love going back to training, you get to see all your mates that you might not have seen during the break.

“I got back from Queensland the night before we started and it just all hit me, the break is over. I did nothing the whole break.’’
