NQ GEARS UP T O SETTLE SCORE

- ROWAN SPARKES

SOUTH Queensland has scored early bragging rights over their Northern rivals after winning with two overs to spare in yesterday’s XXXX Cup Twenty20 clash at Riverway Stadium.

NQ posted 125 runs batting first against South Queensland, who overcame a few early wobbles to chase down the target.

The action resumes over the weekend with two onedayers being played at Riverway today and tomorrow.

“Our top order did all right and set a good platform, but we kind of crumbled towards the end,” North Queensland player Chris Stanger said.

“We probably didn’t execute at the end of the game with the ball either.”

Cricket Far North president Peter Huey said this year’s team had every chance of turning the tables on South Queensland.

“They’ve done really well in the past, so I’ve got some high hopes for them,” Huey said. “I’m hoping North Queensland has put together another good team this year so they can knock off South Queensland again.”

The Queensland Country team will be announced after the tournament.

Meanwhile in local cricket Wests hosts Suburban Parks in a top of the table clash at Mick Downey Oval.

Reigning A grade premiers Sub Parks are coming off a shock 36- run loss to Brothers, while Wests are coming off one of the season’s most one- sides contests of the season to date – a nine- wicket win over Wanderers.

Sub Parks and Wests clashed in Round 5, with Subs scoring a convincing 74- run victory.

Wanderers and Norths play today’s other game at Fred Jacobsen Oval.
