‘ ANGEL LOOKS DOWN ON US’

- MADURA MCCORMACK

THE six- year- old Townsville girl who tragically drowned at Black River at the weekend has been described as a “beautiful angel looking down on us” as family and friends prepare to lay her to rest.

Alliannah Rose Cathcart ( pictured) had been at a birthday gathering of family and friends on Sunday when she disappeared about 1.15pm.

It is understood there were about 10 other people, mostly children, in the water with her at the time.

Alliannah’s body was found less than two hours after she disappeared by police who stripped down and dived into the water, disregarding the reported sighting of a croc a week prior.

A GoFundMe page, titled “Alliannah’s next adventure”, has since been set up to help the Cathcart family lay her to rest.

“On Sunday the 25 of November, we had to say goodbye to our beautiful little girl Alliannah aged six to a terrible accident,” the post read.

“She is now our beautiful angel looking down on us waiting for us to come see her again.

“If anyone could please help lay our angel to rest any donations would be appreciated in helping the family at this time in need.”

Bohlevale State School principal Helen Morris said on Monday that the school community was “deeply shocked and saddened” by the death of Alliannah, who had been a Year 1 student at the school.

“The student was an enthusiastic, high achieving and friendly young child who will be greatly missed by all her friends and teachers,” she said.

“Our thoughts and sincere sympathies go out to the family, caregivers, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.

“Support is being provided to students and staff, and guidance counsellors will remain at the school to provide support in any way they can and for as long as it is needed.”

A note to parents informing them of Alliannah’s passing, issued by the school and seen by the Bulletin, outlined how the news could affect their children.

“The best way to support your child at this time is to listen to them, respond to their questions, acknowledge their feelings, comfort them and help them feel safe,” the note read.

“Bohlevale State School is a wonderful community and I have no doubt that we will pull together to deal with this as best we possibly can.”

A report will be pared for the coroner. pre-
