All ingredients for scorching festival

TOWNSVILLE is ready to rock this weekend with national festival Hotter Than Hell taking on the Kirwan Tavern.

Featuring Spiderbait, Shihad, Bodyjar, Magic Dirt and 28 Days, there will be no shortage of classics for North Queensland rockers to really enjoy.

Magic Dirt vocalist Adalita Srsen said she and the band were counting down the minutes until they jumped on stage in Townsville. “We can’t wait,” she said. “It's only a few days away so we’ve been preparing all winter long and we’re ready to go.

“It’s been a long time since we played in Townsville, so we’re looking forward to seeing the fans and being in that beautiful heat, cooking up a sweat, going off and rocking out.”

Srsen said the band was excited to be playing with such a strong rock line- up.

“We can’t wait to see everyone,” she said.

“We’ve played with so many of the bands on the Hotter Than Hell tour in the ’ 90s and the ’ 00s. We did a lot of festivals together, but I’m particularly excited to catch up with Shihad and Spiderbait.”

Festival organiser Ian Smith said this weekend’s event would be bigger and better than ever, and that organ- isers had a “few their sleeves”.

“To be able to bring some of the country’s best rock bands back to Townsville is so exciting, and to be doing it all again at the equally legendary Kirwan Tavern means a lot for us,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to being able to connect with the local community again.

“It’s no secret Townsville loves its live music, and the first one around was a major highlight for us so now we’re just itching to get back there to put on another awesome day of live music that’s going to knock everyone’s socks off again. We want to make sure everyone has an incred- little surprises up ible experience on the day.”

Smith said after the first Hotter than Hell event sold out around the country earlier this year, the team decided to continue the momentum.

“The reason why we started Hotter Than Hell was to bring exciting line ups to regional areas that get skipped from the usual touring routes too often,” Smith said.

“We’ve already seen how important an event like this is to these areas. These small packaged festivals take us back to the glory days of Big Day Out, without the queues, of course.”
