- TONY RAGGATT

TOWNSVILLE- BASED a c - counting and advisory firm PVW Partners has signed the Australian Supplier Payment Code, committing to pay suppliers within 30 days.

The code is an initiative of the Business Council of Australia. PVW managing partner Carl Valentine said the firm was also encouraging more than 800 other North Queensland business operators to sign the code.

“The Australian Supplier Payment Code is a fantastic initiative of the Business Council of Australia, aimed at supporting small business through signatories committing to pay suppliers within 30 days of receipt of invoice,” Mr Valentine said.

“As any small business owner will attest, cash flow is king, and this initiative is about supporting prompt, on time payment, which is crucial to the day- to- day operations of small business.

“A reliable cash flow and stable working capital allows small business operators to put that money back into their business, into employment opportunities and into the local economy which provides significant benefits to our community as a whole.”

Mr Valentine said the code also encouraged businesses to apply technologies and practices which speed up invoice reconciliation, through systems such as online portals, payment cards and electronic invoicing.

“This voluntary, industryled initiative, shines a spotlight on an extremely important issue which, in some instances, can make or break the success of a small business,” he said.
