Stupidity puts us all in danger

-

A DRIVER was fined once every two minutes a speed camera was operating on Ingham Rd, Bohle.

That is an absolutely shocking number of people exceeding the speed limit.

Obviously some people would have only just been exceeding the speed limit but roads are dangerous and the faster you’re going the less time you have to react – it’s really that simple.

“Pure stupidity” is what the police have called those drivers caught doing more than double the limit on Townsville roads. That’s probably a nice way to put it. There are hundreds of people who have lost loved ones to excess speed regardless of whose fault it was.

The need to keep safe on the roads is incredibly important and that’s why the

together with its sister papers across the state joined forces in a bid to end the startling number of deaths that occur on Queensland’s roads each year.

This must stop is an apt way of summing up the situation. Just stick to the speed limit, surely it cannot be that difficult. The argument about whether it is revenue raising or not is almost irrelevant — don’t speed and you won’t pay. It’s pretty simple really.

Spare a thought for CQ

It sounds like some of the worst fires around Central Queensland, particularly near the Deepwater area are contained — which is great news for that area. But the reality is many people’s homes and belongings would’ve been destroyed in the ferocious fires that are still burning. Spare a thought for the people in Central Queensland and also around Mackay that have had so much taken away from them. Like all natural disasters though there are amazing stories that have and will emerge from these natural disasters. The Queensland firefighters, as well as others from interstate are still risking their lives to protect homes. It’s an amazing thing to hear about and shows how important these people are for our communities up and down Queensland.
