Lime Cordiale serves energetic rock brew

- CLARE ARMSTRONG

A HIGH energy show that’s wonderfully “weird and wild” is hitting Townsville this week as Sydney band Lime Cordiale rolls into town.

The raucous rockers are no strangers to the sunny climes of North Queensland but their show at the Dalrymple Hotel this Friday is their first headline performance in Townsville.

One half of the brother duo, Oli Leimbach, said he looked forward to returning to Townsville and acquainting the audience with the band’s 2017 debut album Permanent Vacation.

“The funny thing is when we released that album it didn’t immediately blow up, then about the middle of this year it started to then climb quite dramatically,” he said.

“It feels pretty cool to have people yell your lyrics back at you, it’s one of those things you strive for as a band.”

Leimbach says the crowd can expect a “high energy” show, with support sets from local artists Late November and singer Nicole Cross.

“It’s pretty safe to be weird and wild,” Leimbach said.

“I think when we play in places the audience is a calm sea and it just gets more wild – in a good way.

“People can be themselves, you see people loosen up, it’s pretty nice when they realise that we’re like that, not these like too cool dudes trying to be people we’re not.”

Leimbach said he hoped the gig attracted new people who had never heard of the band, as well as established fans.

“That’s almost more of a buzz than having people scream lyrics back at you, getting to play songs fresh for new people is great,” he said.

Leimbach said he was a “bit nervous” about the first headline show in Townsville, which is some 2000km away from his Sydney base.

“We’ve been to Townsville before, mainly supporting a local band called King Social, but it’s always a bit nerve- racking to branch out on your own somewhere regional,” he said.

“My brother ( Louis) and I have been up here a few times, but the other guys in the band not so much.

“It’s crazy when you get here – you’re immediately hit with the heat and want to go for a swim but you can’t really swim in a lot of the beaches.

“There was no relief outside of our hotel until we got introduced to a lot of the waterfalls around there … they’re just ab- solutely stunning so we’re going to try and find a few new swimming spots.”

Lime Cordiale play at the Dalrymple Hotel, Townsville on Friday, December 7. Tickets: $ 24.50 available at www. oztix. com. au
