Roberts ready for Tamworth
TOWNSVILLE teenage singing sensation is ready to jet off to the country music capital of Australia.
Brooke “Josie” Roberts, 16, will fly to Tamworth tomorrow, her first solo flight, to perform, busk and compete in competitions at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Roberts said after attending the festival for the first time last year, she discovered the Country Music Association of Australia’s Academy and knew she wanted to get involved.
After a week at the CMAA Junior Academy in July, Roberts found herself with incredible connections in the country music industry as well as lifelong friends.
It was there she had the chance to write a song with Golden Guitar winner Travis Collins – a song that will feature in her upcoming performances.
“I wrote it about my dad, he drives trucks, so he’s away fairly often,” Roberts said.
“My dad is probably my biggest fan.”
The Roberts family had originally planned to travel to Tamworth together, but after a workplace injury hindered their plans, she knew she couldn’t miss out on the opportunity.
“It’s going to be such a good experience,” Roberts said.
“I definitely have to put my big girl pants on but it’s going to be well worth it.
“This is going to be a first for me, being away from family for a week in a different state and flying on my own, it’s going to be hard but definitely something I need to do.”
