CHANGE OF PLAN FINE BY JOSIE

- TRAVIS MEYN

JOSIE Dooley was supposed to be at the beach today.

Instead, the Queensland Fire young gun will be looking to bring the Women’s National Cricket League trophy back to the Sunshine State for the first time.

Dooley, 19, and her Fire teammates are riding the wave of the Brisbane Heat’s stunning Women’s Big Bash League title win.

The majority of the Heat’s victorious women will wear Fire colours in today’s final against the star-studded NSW Breakers at North Sydney Oval.

The Breakers are making their 23rd straight appearance in the WNCL final, but Dooley reckons the in-form Fire can bring the silverware home for the first time.

“After the WBBL win we were on a high and no one expected to make this final,” she said.

“Girls had plans for this weekend already set in place because we thought there was no way we were going to make it.

“I was going to go to the beach. We’ve been away 10 of the last 11 weekends.

“Beating the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers (who boast a lot of the Breakers players) gives us confidence knowing they are beatable.

“They will still be pretty confident. They have such a good winning culture and are known for being an amazing team.

“It would be incredible to win. One of my goals was to win the WNCL the first time for Queensland.

“Winning the double would be amazing. No one thought we could do it.”

The WNCL is the women’s domestic 50-over competition and the season has been split by the Twenty20 WBBL.
