Townsville Bulletin

Lucky ones lend a much needed hand

- CHRIS LEES

FORGET the mud army, Townsville has a new group on the ground to help thirsty people doing it tough while cleaning out their ruined homes.

There were beer angels out in Idalia at the weekend dropping off drinks and food to those affected by flooding.

Bianca Ricketts and Natasha Neville spent the weekend dropping off supplies to people.

“My friend and I, we were handing out sandwiches, Anzac biscuits and beers,” Ms Ricketts said.

Ms Ricketts lives in Kelso and had no through her home.

“We felt pretty useless not being able to do anything so we thought this might bring a smile to people’s faces,” she said.

“I wanted to go and help out so this was the first time I could.”

Ms Ricketts was not the only person keeping people’s spirits up.

“We passed another guy giving out hot pasta,” she said.

“It was just one of those nice moments when you’re both there trying to help out.”

“Idalia was full of people (yesterday) just helping out.” water
