Precious possessions sunk without trace

HEARTBROKEN locals returned to destroyed belongings after the National Storage centre in Idalia was inundated with floodwater.

Shannon Curnow lost most of her furniture and treasured possessions worth thousands of dollars.

“It’s all gone, photos of my firstborn baby, army stuff belonging to my partner … our memories are gone,” she said.

“The insurance will only cover $2000 worth of stuff.”

Ms Curnow said it came as a major blow for her family.

“My little boy that has a dis- ability, his toys and all the Christmas presents were in there,” she said.

“It’s just horrible, we’ve had these belongings with us since our firstborn child.”

National Storage managing director Andrew Catsoulis said access to centres was suspended on Friday because of the weather event.

“Following a number of assessments, including safety and property, access was reinstated yesterday morning, as quickly as it was deemed safe to do so,” he said.

“Access has now been reinstated to all National Storage centres in Townsville.”
