Bad booze toll climbs
MORE than a hundred people died and dozens were hospitalised after being poisoned by toxic alcohol in India’s north.
Police detained more than 200 people and seized hundreds of litres of the deadly drink as more than 90 people were estimated to have died in Saharanpur and Haridwar after consuming the methanol-laced brew late last week.
Eight more deaths were reported in another tainted liquor tragedy in Kushinagar, in Uttar Pradesh.
About 1000 people die in India each year after consuming illegally brewed alcohol.
