New Mustang supercar looks fast standing still: Mclaughlin

-

SUPERCARS champion Scott Mclaughlin has declared he is ready to race with the target on his back after unveiling the new Mustang he hopes will bring back-to-back crowns.

In the most highly anticipated launch of the off-season, Mclaughlin and DJR Team Penske teammate Fabian Coulthard yesterday pulled the covers off the new Mustang Supercar that will hit the track for testing at Phillip Island on Thursday before the seasonopening Adelaide 500 on February 28.

The Mustang replaces the iconic Ford Falcon, which was given the perfect send-off last year when Mclaughlin claimed his maiden Supercars title on the streets of Newcastle. Mclaughlin declared he already liked the Mustang more than the Falcon.

“I loved the Falcon, don’t get me wrong. But I just think there is something about having a Mustang that is very cool,’’ Mclaughlin said.

“It looks fast standing still, so I can’t wait to see how it performs on the streets of Adelaide in a couple of weeks.

“It’s exciting. It’s a brand new, two-door coupe that everyone is talking about. I’m just pumped to get out there and just wring its neck.’’

After avenging the heartbreak of his missed oppor- tunity in 2017, Mclaughlin said he would embrace being the hunted on track in his new machine this year.

“It’s different to where I was last year. I was chasing redemption last year,’’ he said.

“This year it is the hunted . . . bring it on. I was leading the championship for a long time last year and everyone wanted to beat our team and I’m just excited to go out there and beat them all again.’’
