FAMILIES UNITE IN TRIBUTE

- KEAGAN ELDER

TOWNSVILLE-BORN Zachary Shane Robertson, who was killed in a head-on crash on the Bruce Highway near Alligator Creek, has been remembered by his family as a “fun-loving larrikin”.

The Robertson and Hookey families of Cloncurry and Townsville penned a tribute to their beloved brother, son, grandson, nephew and uncle, affectionately known as Zach.

Mr Robertson, 28, a former Pimlico State High School student, died from injuries in the collision between a car and a truck near Killymoon Creek on February 10.

The Robertson and Hookey families said he would be “missed by all his family” and those “he had contact with during his young life”.

“He will be remembered as a fun-loving larrikin with a cheeky smile and infectious laugh,” the families said in a statement.

“Zach had the ability to capture everyone’s attention when he walked into a room with his charismatic energy and down-to-earth nature.”

Mr Robertson is survived by his twin brother Kayne Robertson, older brother Camden Robertson, older sister Kerisca Hookey, and his proud parents Bevan Robertson and Kerry Hookey.

“Zach was a favourite uncle to his nieces and nephew, who he loves more than anything in the world, and they now have a huge void in their heart as they come to terms with his absence,” the families said.

“Zach is the ‘baby’ of the family and never married, and has no children.

“Zach was born in Towns- ville and attended Pimlico State High School, where he made lifelong friends.

“He was a boilermaker by trade and spent most of his life living and working between Cloncurry and Townsville.

“Zach was known to have a great work ethic and attitude, and was a pleasure to work with.

“Zach was a great friend to many and always offered his time and help where and when he could, and never asked for anything in return.”

Mr Robertson’s family thanked everyone who had passed on their condolences and extended an invitation for all his friends and family to attend his funeral at Cloncurry Lawn Cemetery on Friday, February 22.

Mr Robertson was driving in a sedan at the time of the crash.

Townsville Police District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant Darren Randall said he died at the scene.

“The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and that will be a thorough investigation,” Sgt Randall told the Bulletin.

“Early indications are the sedan crossed into the path of the northbound vehicle.”
