Council in call to insurers

COUNCILLOR­S have met with insurers to ensure claims are processed swiftly and fairly.

Townsville Local Disaster Management Group chairwoman Mayor Jenny Hill has met with Suncorp Insurance’s chief executive officer Gary Dransfield to ensure claims are processed swiftly and fairly.

“Insurers will have a huge role to play in rebuilding our city,” Cr Hill said. “Mr Dransfield told me that Suncorp assessors were already on the ground and more are arriving in coming days.

“It’s important that the insurance industry does the right thing and pays our claims fairly and swiftly to help flood-affected residents get back on their feet.”

Mr Dransfield said it was vital businesses, government and communitie­s worked together to rebuild.

Builders have been deployed and are committed to using a range of local tradespeop­le and suppliers during the recovery.

Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group chairman Deputy Mayor Les Walker said insurers needed to do the right thing by the city.

“The job to rebuild our city is going to be major and it’s crucial that residents are able to sort out their insurance matters swiftly so they can start to get on with their lives,” Cr Walker said. “We are urging all insurers that have claims from this unpreceden­ted flood to do the right thing by this city and their customers.”
