EJ North Ward - i would prefer to see community sports fields given help than private businesses. Graziers are private businesses running cattle for a profit. Did we all rush to help videoezy franchisees when circumstances destroyed their industry? Public

Each month, about 630,000 cows are killed for human consumption and almost no one cares or comments about their deaths. Yet when the North Queensland floods took the lives of about 300,000 cows, farm folk are ‘broken’ and grieving their deaths. Why? Because no one was able to profit from the dead cows. HJL Townsville

Here we go again , the false hype about Winx! Small field of 7, 5 of them stablemates and the soft option of WFA , not having to give away weight and most of her opponents handicappers anyway. Let’s see her run her final race in the Caulfield Cup where she will have to give away big weight, which is the real test of a great horse, something she has avoided doing for about 3 years. Terry Brown Wulguru I am curious as to why no one has thought to mention the actions of Townsville city council planning division for all this news with the flooding? Surely they knew where they allowed all the new building in Fairfield and a particular section in Annandale is old flood plains!! I grew up in Townsville and used to ride my push bike through all these places when there wasn’t a house in sight. Just waiting for next cyclone to see what happens with flooding to

Please print Steve from Belgian Gardens everyday!! Laughter is the best medicine!! Tony Bgardens Insurance companies who refuse to pay out to Townsville residents, because of some technicality, should be named and shamed. In light of the dire situation that this city is going through, it’s not right to put profits before people, in addition, there’s been deaths occurring from an horrific soilborne disease. Haven’t the people of Townsville suffered enough? The last thing they need is all this uncertainty of whether the insurers will pay out or not, you don’t kick a man when he’s down, that’s not who we are. D. Bilton w /end

Rubbish RD@NW you are safe but those of us who are not are in no doubt that negligence & poor judgment by authorities have caused this disaster. They are culpable. Some places that normally flood due to rain did not others that are usually ok were inundated. It was the dam, the works on Bowen Road bridge & poor decision making. No excuses. Take responsibility TCC. RW@ID

People, you have to stop arguing with the Greens and their allied looney associates. They don’t respond to logic and they never allow the truth to get in the way of winning an argument. If we simply ignore their ridiculous assertions, they will wither away through lack of attention. Jeff Condon.

Once again NQ gets shafted as insurance companies prove they are scum and politicians continue to be useless. Phantom 4817.

The question I have is “Why release the dam water on an incoming king tide?” The dam capacity could have handled it. And now Jenny Hill sends us our rates notice to rub salt into our flooded homes. A mould spore on this council. JC Idalia

While completely understanding everyones frustration about car thefts locally and the consequences for offenders , PC (TB 15/2) , you are wrong to suggest that there are ‘two sets of rules’ in sentencing. There are a number of matters courts take into account in mitigation of penalty for each offender, but two issues are foremost: was the offender a ‘child’ and then dealt with under the juvenile justice legislation ? Secondly, what criminal history for like offences does the offender have against his/her name , especially if an adult? If the case you refer to involved a Judge’s vehicle then this is largely irrelevant from a sentencing standpoint. The number of previous convictions of the offender is far more relevant for the Court to determine the amount of jail time. Anton CBD 4810

RE: Biased Finch report. Who didn’t see this coming? The fair and honest political system in Australia died many years ago. Rick M 4817

Why do “the luvvies” fail to learn from history? They cannot comprehend the world has millions, yes millions, who will do anything to get to Aust, or France, Germany, Canada etc. If I drew the short straw of country of birth, I would most likely be one of the illegal, economic refugees looking for the first sign of weakness in Canberra. The Govt has taken years to clean up Krudd’s mess, & overnight well meaning leftys who let emotion cloud judgement send that message of weakness out to millions of desperate people. We simply can’t take them all. Pedro Cranbrook

If the CFMEU was serious about jobs they would be attacking puddleduck for her stance on Adani.tradie Crjng

Hey girls. If you don’t already know what he looks like, do yourself a favour & Google up a few images of Senator Brian Burston. I hear the ladies find him irresistible . . . A likely story. Ox Rosslea

Chris Eastaughffe’s rant about “modern monetary theory” provides no evidence that either the Greens or ALP endorse it, or are implementing it anywhere in Australia. And closing the “tax refunds for zero-tax retirees” rort isn’t a new tax, it’s closing a loophole that’s haemorrhaging $100 million a week of taxpayer money into the pockets of wealthy retirees. Steve, Belgian Gardens

I feel for those affected by the floods but if the government gives too many handouts to the uninsured, how many more people will cancel their insurance and rely on the handouts next time? It’s a slippery slope. Bucket Kwn

Now I understand why we pay so much for insurance. Lodged claim online on the 4.2 . Advised that a building company based in Brisbane would be managing the claim. Building company phoned to advise they will appoint a person to manage my claim. Contract manager phoned and said they will arrange for a carpenter to attend. Carpenter turned up unannounced drilled two holes in the walls. Was on site for five minutes.

Contacted contract manager who advised they would arrange for mould remediation and once that was done they would arrange for an assessor and estimator do that repair work could be scheduled. Still waiting for assessor and estimator, and I am fully covered. Exhausting, stressful and annoying working with these companies. Kath Rasmussen

It is gut wrenching to think that Townsville rental owners or agents are ripping off flood victims by raising rentals by $100 plus! How mean and anti Australian is that! Shame on all who are indecently hitting those who lost everything, you are on the same level as the looters. Al 4817

To Ron of kelso if listening to an alternative viewpoint upsets you so much go to your computer and listen to radio LNP aka 2gb and they will tell you what you want to hear 24/7 Rab 4814

Mike Abraham - that’s very noble of you to accept no explanation for your loss, and more importantly whether it could have been minimised. You are aware the dam could have been opened earlier, or not at all. The remaining natural rainfall would not have inundated your home, but each to their own I suppose when it comes to answers and moving on. Whitty

It seems you can only get top insurance cover if there’s an excellent chance that nothing you are insured against will ever happen. Compare this attitude with Sunmetals donating $300,000, giving employees paid leave to help to help victims, and donating equipment! Incredible difference! Ags Hermit Pk

?? ?? If 1.6metres of rain falls from sky and fills creeks and rivers and causes flooding isn’t that a storm caused by rain. Rivers don’t flood without rain. so what part of that don’t the insurance companies understand, or maybe i am wrong. MC Wulguru
