Dancenorth’s secret project ‘very special’

-

SOME of Australia’s best choreographers are helping Dancenorth create a “very special” project.

Kristina Chan, Thomas E.S. Kelly, Melanie Lane, Jo Lloyd, Gabrielle Nankivell, Daniel Riley and Lee Serle have been collaborating with Dancenorth for two weeks to develop new work.

It will be presented in Townsville and across Australia later this year.

Ms Lloyd, who is from Melbourne, said the dancers were “pretty much the most exquisite group of dancers in the country”.

“It’s interesting because we each have our own methods and with each of the dancers you do hope you bring something … that challenges them,” she said.

Each of the choreographers are working with an individual dancer for the performance, which is expected to be unique.

Dancenorth artistic director Kyle Page said they often referred to the company as an “epicentre for creativity and collaboration”.

“These past two weeks have been a true manifestation of this sentiment,” he said.

“The creative energy in the room has been overwhelming and the generosity of these amazing artists has enriched not only the project but also the energy of our entire company.

“Together we are creating something very special that will be shared with Townsville later this year before venturing out into the world.”

Mr Page said although it was secretive now, good things were worth the wait.

The work is expected to be shown in Townsville about the middle of the year although no date has been confirmed yet.
