Taxis play vital role in emergency

- ANGELA RHEEDERS Townsville Taxis

THE recent unprecedented flooding event has impacted Townsville in so many unforeseen ways.

For us, it was the unexpected demand for our services by not only the huge influx of emergency services personnel to our region, but also the many in our community who have sadly lost their only means of transport.

Despite some of our own staff, taxi drivers and taxi operators being severely impacted by the floods themselves, everyone worked together to enable Townsville Taxis to continue to provide transport.

We were one of the last on the roads in the lead up to the flooding event, and one of the first to restart after the roads reopened.

We have been very proud to be of assistance to the State Emergency Service, Queensland Police and Ambulance Services, and state and local government agencies, and while we have made every effort to get all of our loyal customers to where they needed to be, unfortunately there have been unavoidable delays.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to our many customers who have exercised great patience and understanding during these stressful times.

Townsville Taxis is a proud local company and those who use our services can do so with the knowledge and peace of mind that every cent spent stays in the Townsville community.

Our local call centre has a large casual workforce and our taxi drivers work on a commission basis, so we are all extremely appreciative and grateful for the support shown to us.

To alleviate delays, we have every available taxi on the road 24/7, and every available call centre operator is working hard to meet our customers’ requests

On behalf of everyone at Townsville Taxis, we would like to thank the many unsung heroes who have worked so tirelessly and did so much during the flooding, and who continue to go above and beyond in helping those who have needed it the most.

Together we will rebuild our beautiful city.
