SINGING IN HARMONY

LAST term, St Margaret Mary’s College hosted an extraordinary number of students and guests for the annual Combined Choir Workshop and concert.
Students from The Marian School, St Joseph’s Mundingburra, St Joseph’s the Strand and our very own Bella Voce Choir came to enjoy afternoon tea, team-bonding games and prepared two songs.
Bella Voce Choir member Monique Archer said it was great to be part of such an amazing workshop with other schools.
“Working with the younger students, teaching them the songs and them also teaching us some interesting warm-ups was a thrill,” she said.
“It shows the passion and dedication that all of us girls and the primary school students have towards music.”
Over 170 students were involved, which would seem like a challenge, but we managed to provide our audience with an afternoon of musical delight.
A huge thankyou goes to our generous teachers Alix Hansen, Kerry Rehn, Suzy Sheriff, Alice Beams, Nancy Nicholson and Ivy Trueman for their assistance in preparing such a successful event.
Organising teacher and conductor Alice Beams said the combined choral workshop was a great success.
“All members of the four different school choirs really listened to each other to create a blended, harmonious sound,” Ms Beams said.
“A lot of fun was had when performing the songs with actions and our icebreaker games.
“The aim of this workshop is to create bonds between the schools and foster a musical community that supports each other.
“I was especially proud when I could see everyone singing from their hearts in the song Wings. It was a very special and beautiful moment.”
This event cultivated great exposure for the community spirit and was presented beautifully in Benedictine Place, creating a really lovely atmosphere.
We hope to make this an annual event to look forward to in the years to come for aspiring choir members in our diocese.
