No abuse for Harper or Stewart
THE approval of the Adani mine has not brought abuse from constituents for two Townsville MPS, unlike Environment Minister
Leeanne Enoch who said her family had been threatened.
Thuringowa MP Aaron Harper said he had not had a single person comment negatively to him about Adani since the final environmental plans were approved last week. He said, however, that a minority of “keyboard warriors” had been abusive in the past.
“I’ve had verbal death threats left to my phone … the stuff that we see, they are keyboard warriors, because 99 per cent of people are very polite and say g’day and are up for a chat,” he said.
Townsville MP Scott Stewart said that rather than abuse about Adani approvals, he had received a “pat on the back”.
Mr Stewart’s office was targeted by anti-adani protesters on Friday. He said it was the protesters’ right to voice their opinions.
Ms Enoch revealed both her and her family had been subjected to offensive comments since the mine was approved.
“Our personal safety has been threatened,” she said.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said no other MPS had come to her about being threatened and those who had should report the incident to police.
Protesters have flagged an increase in “nonviolent civil disobedience”, with environmental group
Frontline Action on Coal last week claiming activists were ready to “put their bodies on the line” to prevent Adani from going ahead with the $2 billion Carmichael mine project.
