Plan takes fuelling up to another level
WORK will soon begin on a two-storey 24-hour Mcdonald’s and service station at the entrance to the new Elliot Springs housing development on the Bruce Highway.
A development application lodged with Townsville City Council this week shows the plans to transform the 1ha site on the corner of the Bruce Highway and Whites Creek Rd, 15km south of Townsville.
According to the plans, the development will be done in two stages: the first being the construction of a service station with a food and drink outlet as part of the site.
So far, there is no brand attached to the service station but given the number of United service stations with Pie House cafes attached popping up along the Bruce Highway lately, this combination seems a viable option.
There’ll be ample parking at the site, with 31 spaces for the service station as well as caravan and trailer parking, with an additional 34 car spaces at Mcdonald’s.
Design plans show a twolevel Mcdonald’s restaurant, with a Mccafe and huge children’s playground, as well as ample seating and a functions/party room. There will be additional seating outside, as well as a dual-lane drive through accommodating queuing for 16 cars.
Andrew Gold Landscape Architect will provide “extensive landscaping” for the development, as well as a 4m-high acoustic barrier to block noise for any future homes being built next door. A master plan revealed in 2017 showed by 2057, Elliot Springs would be home to more than 26,000 people, with local builders to construct between 10,000 and 13,000 homes.
Elliot Springs development director Simon Walker confirmed work would “shortly commence” on Stage 1, the service station and convenience retail offering.
“The masterplanned community will include up to seven schools, including two Prep to Year 12, three neighbourhood centres and a subregional town centres, five district sporting and recreational hubs, over 80ha of business and commercial lands and over 500ha of open space,” Mr Walker said.
“We are currently working on the opening of Elliot Springs Sprout Hub, in the heart of Wadda Mooli Park, offering a cafe, community space and amenities.”
Mr Walker said Elliot Springs was now home to more than 50 residents, with new homes being built all the time.
