Titans wait on meeting with Mal

-

RUGBY LEAGUE: For a man approaching what could be his final NRL match as Gold Coast coach, Garth Brennan is hardly distressed.

Brennan’s hold on the Titans’ coaching position is looking increasingly tenuous due to a disappointing 2019 campaign, with Gold Coast sitting a lowly 15th with just four wins.

The Titans board is due to meet on Monday with rugby league legend Mal Meninga expected to table his findings from a mid-season review into the club’s operations, with Brennan’s fate likely to be sealed at the meeting.

The 47-year-old is in his second season as Titans coach and has won just 12 of 39 games.

While Queensland State of Origin coach Kevin Walters distanced himself from taking over at the Titans following Wednesday night’s series decider in Sydney, he’s still thought to be a frontrunner should the role become vacant.

Brennan says he’s aware of the speculation but is adamant it’s a decision that is out of his control and therefore not worth stressing over.

“I can’t hide under a rock but honestly, it doesn’t faze me,” he said.

Brennan doesn’t deny the club’s return of four wins in

2019 is simply unacceptable for a team which harboured genuine finals aspirations. The biggest hindrance for Brennan is several of the recruits he’s brought to the club on big money haven’t worked out.

Hulking prop Shannon Boyd has struggled for form and fitness, Bryce Cartwright is another who has failed to fire while EX-NSW utility Tyrone Peachey reportedly already wants out of the club less than a year into a three-year deal.
