Morgan still in doubt for Souths match

-

COWBOYS captain Michael Morgan is no certainty to take the field against the Rabbitohs next week, with the playmaker needing to “tick some boxes” in his recovery from a concussion.

Morgan was left unconscious on the ANZ Stadium turf during the Origin decider, the second concussion he had suffered inside two weeks. It ruled him out of the Cowboys’ upset win over the Roosters, and he might not make it back in time for Saturday’s clash 1300SMILES Stadium.

Cowboys coach Paul Green said Morgan would need to see the doctor this week in the lead up to the clash with the Rabbitohs.

“He has to tick off some things through the week,” Green said.

The Cowboys were boosted by the return of veteran frontrower Matt Scott against the Roosters yesterday, with the 33-year-old coming off the bench at Central Coast Stadium.

It was the first time Scott had taken the field since sustaining a minor dislocation to his shoulder almost two months ago.

Green praised the efforts of the 263-game veteran who punched out 73 metres and 18 tackles in a 30-minute stint.

“I thought he was good. I thought he made a real impact,” Green said. When it is broken down, rugby league is a simple game.

To win the game you need to score points, to score points you need to have the ball.

And the Cowboys made sure they had the ball with a handling rate that would have brought a smile to the face of Paul Green. The visitors completed 35 of 39 sets to finish with a completion rate of 90 per cent. Even when they had the worse of the territory battle in the second half, it was the safety-first approach that helped the Cowboys come over the top of the Roosters.
