Excuses tough to cop

-

I REFER to the article on page 3 ( TB, 27/7/19) “Out to police boost pledge” and the comments made by the two so-called Palaszczuk Government representatives of Townsville Scott Stewart and Aaron Harper – did someone say election around the corner?

One comment from Mr Stewart, and I quote, “Our coppers (I think he means police) do an outstanding job and I back them 100 per cent”.

With the crime rate being as it is, as recently published, maybe Mr Stewart should try to find another way of backing the police because whatever he is doing now isn’t working. I think even the people who voted for him, and I can’t speak for them, are disappointed in his performance or lack of one.

Mr Harper advocates that if he could have the extra police here he would. Well, he has had how many years to get the extra police here, and they still haven’t arrived?

He also advises that crime stats are going up and down – one has to ask from where is he getting his information, because it would appear the last set of figures he produced were somewhat rubbery and not as accurate as the official police figures.

I can understand why you would look elsewhere for other figures because they are obviously not as embarrassing for the Government you represent as the official ones are.

According to Mr Harper we need to be holding offenders accountable – now that’s novel, flowered shirts, smashed televisions, fast food, fluffy duck approach, what was it $600,000 the taxpayer has had to pay because the inept Palaszczuk Government is either unable or unwilling to maintain law and order not only in detention centres but out on the streets as well.

No one can blame the police or police numbers, the police arrest the offenders and the courts because of legislation enacted by the Government. The Government that you and the other two so-called Townsville representatives so proudly represent have to let them go, if the detention centre was run as a detention centre no one would like to revisit, so therefore we wouldn’t need more police because would-be criminals would think twice about committing crime because of the inevitable consequences facing them once caught, which is not long after the offence/s were committed.
