Labor has lost sight of reality

-

THE Labor State Government still doesn’t get it.

The people of Queensland, and in particular North Queensland, want to get to work.

They want to see politicians who, instead of playing politics, finger-pointing, infighting and making excuses, are facilitating economic growth in Queensland.

Led by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, this is a government that’s entirely lost its way.

The party’s 2017 election platform was based on a reassurance that public service jobs would not be axed and that message still resonated even a whole term after Campbell Newman’s savage cuts.

Other than that, the Queensland Government — in its second term — has precious little vision for the state.

Given the party was punished so badly, State Labor said it had to do some soul searching.

The Premier and all her senior Brisbane-based ministers went on a regional road tour to reassure their country cousins they were listening.

Yet for all that lip-service, the State Government still doesn’t get it.

This paper, along with our sister papers in Rockhampton and Mackay, called for a Cabinet reshuffle and a new Minister for North Queensland. We’ve been completely ignored.

We had to fight tooth and nail to get the State Government to stop playing politics with our resource sector and now they want to hold up our water needs.

It’s outrageous that our peak economic group Townsville Enterprise is unable to progress the business case for Hells Gate Dam due to the State Government.

These are nation-building projects held up by the whim of this dysfunctional state Labor Party. It leads us to ask the question: Does the current State Government dislike dam projects or just North Queenslanders? Or is it both?

Either way, this do-nothing government has to be sent packing at the next election.
