Rogue truckies John Anderson? If you’re getting overtaken by a b double why didn’t you slow down so it got past safely? Road safety is a two way street (pun intended) and you should do your bit as well. Nothing wrong with trucks overtaking, it’s just some car and caravaners who seem to think they own the road. Mango Muncher. 4812
As they struggle to recall, relate and distance themselves from the recent dilemmas beleaguering them, Premier Palaszczuk and Deputy Trad should be advised that “If you tell the truth you don’t have to remember anything.”. This truism can also be expressed as “It takes more effort to lie than it does to tell the truth and one has to remember what lie was told to whom.” Supergirl, Kirwan.
Russ (the monkey) Douglas, when Labor is voted out will the LNP sack all the Labor magistrates and install liberals To hand out harsher sentences Brad 4811
Tradie, Colorado love your one liner about EU is Hotel California, very funny old mate. 2 questions, can Boris get the job done, & has TTE got that big it’s read in the good ol’ USA. (Gidday Donald!) Pedro Cranbrook
Old Soldier, using “true facts” and “God” in the same sentence is an oxymoron. Gods were created as an answer to things about the world that were beyond the comprehension of humans who thought the world was flat. Before science provided the real answers, people thought lightning, thunder and rain meant an angry God until they discovered electricity and precipitation were the cause. The British found Australia before finding any dinosaur bones. Azza 4812
If the courts get the juveniles that break the law to do things around the community like clean up graffiti, clean up the litter along our beaches and streets, instead of sending them to a holiday camp (detention centre) ,they wouldn’t be so quick to go and break the law, and they will be putting something back in to the community. Mick Oakvalley
Yes BG Heatley. I and many others including Ethan Lowe are at at loss to understand the Cowboys hierarchy’s decision to let go of such a talented player. Bunnies now very happy! LC 4810
If people are dying as a result of road accidents, then maybe the speed limits need be lowered in those known killing zones. Cowboy Dan, Wulguru
We are reminded in various forms to support our local traders. Tried that yesterday before heading to the wonderful concerts at Queens Gardens. Two cafes in Gregory St discouraged potential customers, very ungracious in their approach, given that there were so many people in the area. Noisily stacking chairs while customers still dining is not a good look either! Other cafes only metres away were booming. GM A’vale
When will Barnaby Joyce learn to be silent and accept the consequences of his actions? He began a new family while already being a husband and father to his origianal family. He expects the public to side with him and see him as understanding what it is like to try to survive on the Newstart allowance. Ha! KM 4815
Why do teachers now have to attend a workshop to deal with “trauma-affected children” who, apparently make up half the school population? Children have always had to deal with trauma in their lives such as family breakdowns, poverty or natural disasters, and it was never an excuse to fail at school. Kids must have been tougher back in the day, and I know teachers definitely were! What’s gone wrong over the last few years, is it just lack of discipline? Ags Hermit Pk
Road toll may be reduced if the speed between Townsville and Cairns was increased to 110kph. This option seems to work on other states main highways. It allows the cars to overtake the trucks and alleviate tailgating. Most times when in an overtaking lane everyone accelerates and one needs to break the law in an effort to pass! Sandy 4818
Just wondering if anyone had experience this in the past I went to see a very good friend of mine at the Mayer hospital because they are renovating the hospital and they took that car park at the back away I could not find a parking spot near the hospital so I decided to Park at the end of Lothair street on front of a house no no sign that I could not park but on the ticket it said I had to park in bays only but they were no bays available so I thought I would park there not happy so did anyone experience this? M from Kirwan
Roads, rates, rubbish and no stupid PR stunts with light shows – you have got my vote Sam, along with many others. We need a back to basics council with some pride in ourselves. DB4815
Russ Douglas, sorry but that’s the problem. It’s politicians, regardless of party that are interfering with the judiciary. Crims incarcerated is less crime. My opinion. M J Reynolds Mt Louisa
NT, Sth Tsvl, The standard mitigation pleas are: The offender had a fight with girlfriend/ boyfriend/partner, had an unsettled childhood, was affected drugs/alcohol or both and is aggrieved with anything else in life. If defence can raise all these factors, the offender may be freed with the Court’s profound apology. Victims and police can attract criticism for inconveniencing the offender. Jeff, Condon. Ever since I read Aaron Harper’s comment in the Bulletin saying that when you first get into politics, you’re bound to make some mistakes, I knew he was going to be a totally useless and self-serving politician, and someone that can’t be trusted to do the right thing for the people he’s meant to represent. Making excuses for poor political performance leads down the path of apathetic governance, which is what we have with our state Labor. BD 4812
Some weeks ago our grandson a keen sailing enthusiast took me out on the water to observe the magnitude of nuclear aircraft carrier USS Ronald Regan. It’s mind-boggling when u consider 6000 crew work, eat, sleep & have most facilities of normal life for long periods on a floating mini-city, i’m also told they don’t glow even in the dark. Science advances technology & every day we get closer to perfecting the power of the universe. Once our generation goes the young & future ones may realise the initial cost is worth it for the ultimate & cleanest energy source for the human race, we also have an abundance of the ingredient. Carl. Pimlico.
Pedro, Cranbrook. It has been a long time since I have disagreed with you old mate, but on the Mayor I will, for me she shows her old colours far too quickly and stands beside Trad and Co nodding in agreement way to readily, I also believe that there is a lot more to what is happening in Walker St than us mere ratepayers are being told. Ron Kelso.
Anyone who drives the Stuart Highway knows there’s a dangerous lack of overtaking lanes and in the ones we do have for some unknown reason people that sit on 85 to 90km an hour want to speed up to 100 in the overtaking lane which forces other people to do 110-20 to overtake them and then they slow back down to 90 absolutely staggering and very dangerous and all those truckies need to take a chill pill those very annoying Grey nomads in their caravans are here to stay so we’ll just have to grin and bear it surely by now you cowboys realise running them off the road isn’t the answer All Kirwan
Old Soldier, re God man or woman; in the Bible, God is often referred to as “He”, but theoretically, is neither a man, nor a woman. Matt 4818
None of these crabbers mentioned sustainability. Overfishing would be just as bad for their livelihoods as the quotas (and worse for the crabs). Steve, Belgian Gardens
I’m confused. Was God created by the “Big Bang” or did he create himself? Old Tiger. Kelso
Immortalised in Bronze You could have a thousand players in bronze but how about the man who played a huge part in creating the Cowboys … Kerry Boustead, great player, great role model. Jen
We certainly need a new council, especially an efficient one but Sam Cox is not the answer. He comes across as a opportunist whose major concern is Sam Cox’s ego. Larry M’burra
Typical Townsville City Council. Do roadworks on a Sunday on Greenwood Dr when there is an event on at the sports ground. Dimwit Council 4817
Finally Scott Stewart calls for additional police by yrs end due to 13.5% increase in robberies last financial yr, Aaron Harper’s repeated claims of a reduction over this period in his regular self-praising letters now claims it’s going up & down & stands by the General’s 23 recommendations. Thankfully this isn’t a 4 yr term & only have 15 mths for the opportunity to elect those prepared to pledge a definate solution to this shambles, cull the deadwood in the public sector & direct the savings where it’s really needed. WW. C/jong.
If all the ice currently captured in Greenland melts, sea level would rise 7 metres. The Strand will really be ephemera. Wayne, 4814.
Russell Coates’s letter on evolution is another shining example of how science is being increasingly rejected in favour of ignorance and superstition. Those who say they don’t believe in science would be more honest to say they don’t understand it. Roger, Mt Louisa
