GOLD Coast are poised to name their next coach but young gun AJ Brimson says the NRL club’s players aren’t pressuring the board to rush the decision.

The Titans board met yesterday to discuss the candidates for their coaching vacancy, with Queensland State of Origin boss Kevin Walters and St Helens coach Justin Holbrook believed to be the frontrunners.

It’s understood an announcement is likely to be made by tomorrow on who will succeed Garth Brennan.

Since Brennan was sacked this month, the Titans have suffered heavy home defeats to Melbourne and Brisbane.

Despite those losses, Brimson says the players are enjoying life under interim coach Craig Hodges and certainly don’t feel any pressing desire to know who the club’s long-term coach will end up being.

“I don’t think it’s something we need,” the 20-yearold said.

“It could help maybe but I don’t think it is something we can rely on.

“We didn’t show it on the weekend but I think everyone’s really enjoying Hodgo and buying in to what he’s trying to bring.”

Brimson got a chance to experience Walters’ coaching style when he linked up with the Maroons squad as 19th man for the Origin decider in Sydney.

If Walters does get the nod by the Titans board, Brimson expects he will be a successful choice.

“Obviously being an Origin coach is a little bit different to being a club coach,” Brimson said.

“He was very passionate, which is obvious.

“He’s a good guy. I think he’d do a good job here.

“He’s done a good job with Queensland and that’s obviously a high level of footy.”
