New shop’s a cut above

- YASMIN BONNELL

A HAIRDRESSER has returned to her roots, relocating her salon Diva’s Way Hair to the exact location in Kirwan where she completed her apprenticeship more than a decade ago.

Karen Carlsen, who has owned the business at 141 Thuringowa Drive for the past three years, has built up a loyal clientele. When the lease finished she sought the help of Shaun Mclaren, sales and leasing executive at Colliers International Townsville.

“The new site is the address of the salon where I completed my apprenticeship back in 2008,” Ms Carlsen said.

“It was called Style Sensation when I worked there.

“When Shaun mentioned the site was available I had to laugh.”

Ms Carlsen said she transformed the shop in just four days.

“It looks a bit different now. We have put in all new flooring, changed the layout and made it more open plan,” she said.

“We will continue to do what we’ve always done, which is make sure our customers feel welcome and comfortable.

“We just might look a bit fancier.” Mr Mclaren, who helped Ms Carlsen find the new site for her business, said he thought the location of the 90sq m shop would be good for business.

“This is an expansion of her ( Ms Carlsen’s) local business into a bigger space for a five-year lease,” Mr McLaren said.

“It is opposite Willows shopping centre and has ample carparking.

“It should be a great spot for her.” Diva’s Way Hair officially opened in the new location at 3/2 Kern Brothers Drive last week. TONY TO RAGGATT 4722 4439 YASMIN BONNELL 4722 4451
