Warehouses full of big potential

- YASMIN BONNELL

BUILDER Geoff Hartley is constructing 12 new industrial warehouses at 30 Civil Rd in Garbutt, displaying his strong confidence in the Townsville market.

The development, Biz Link Townsville, will house spaces ranging from 50sq m to 145sq m in size.

Mr Hartley first ventured into commercial property four years ago with the development of APEX Business Warehouses, which consists of 14 slightly smaller units across the road.

Following its success, Mr Hartley said there was a market for more.

“I believe there is demand for spaces like this (Biz Link Townsville) and I think these days people want it sitting there ready to go,” Mr Hartley said.

“There are warehouses vacant all over Townsville but sometimes you need to offer more and give people what they need.

“We have already had inquiries and a couple of very good businesses have already committed to a lease.”

Mr Hartley said the spaces were ideal for small businesses growing to the next stage.

“It’s a good spot for businesses that might have started from home and have grown,” he said.

“A lot of thought has gone into the design and build.

“Marketing can be very expensive, so spaces like this are great exposure for smaller businesses.”

Ray White Commercial Townsville sales and leasing executive Troy Townsend, agreed the site of the development had great potential for small businesses.

“He (Geoff) is confident that the market is going to turn,” Mr Townsend said.

“The site has great exposure, being on a corner location, and eight of the units have street frontage.

“They are expected to be completed at about the start of October.”
