MILESTONE PRIDE IN CHILD CARE
ONE of Townsville’s most highly sought childcare centres will celebrate 25 years of operation in style.
Mike Reynolds Early Childhood Centre in North Ward will hold a long table dinner under the banyan trees in their playground, to celebrate the milestone and to farewell two staff who have led the centre for a combined 44 years.
Retiring centre director Starr Strowger has worked at the centre since moving from Mackay in 2001.
“I love that our centre is community based, and that by working with a committee of parents we have been able to continually improve, provide flexibility to parents and staff and build the centre to now care for 108 children a week, including a kindergarten we built in 2016.
“The centre opened in 1993 and we have five staff members who have been with us for over 20 years, so we must be doing something right,” Ms Stowger said.
One of the team who has been with the centre since 1994 is Kathy Bishop, who started as a childcare assistant and retires as assistant centre director.
“It has been a pleasure to be a part of the lives of so many people over so many years; it is a lovely, friendly family community and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, the staff, the families; the environment has all been wonderful,” Ms Bishop said.
“We encourage all families who have been part of our community over the years to join us for our long table dinner and celebrate with us.”
The Long Table Dinner is being held at Mike Reynolds Early Childhood Centre on Saturday, August 10.
