Jail proves no bar for steadfast trafficker

- TESS IKONOMOU

A MAN continued to supply illicit drugs, including methamphetamine, over a four-year period despite spending time in jail during that period.

Jadedon Dion Farrell Falswasser, 25, was sentenced to five years and two weeks’ jail when he faced Townsville Supreme Court for a raft of charges including three counts of trafficking dangerous drugs.

Crown prosecutor Andrew Walklate told the court there were three “distinct” periods of trafficking when the man was between the ages of 20-24 years of age.

Falswasser’s offending started on May 17, 2014, for supply of drugs but he began to traffic drugs between October 2015 and December 2017.

Mr Walklate described the man’s conduct as “brazen”, initially at a street level.

“It becomes more intense, involves three different drugs and involves amounts that are creeping upwards,” he said.

Falswasser also committed drug offences while on bail and parole during his first and second periods of trafficking, having a break while he was imprisoned.

Mr Walklate said the man also stole an engagement ring for his partner from a Cash Converters store in Townsville in 2017.

Defence barrister Scott Geeves said Falswasser started smoking cannabis at the age of 10, and using ice when he was 15.

“In his own words, he feels that particular drug changed his life … his plans upon his release include removing himself from Townsville; he wants to reside with his mum and sister in Toowoomba,” he said.

Mr Geeves said his client wanted to “stabilise his life” and was interested in pursuing tertiary study.

Justice David North declared Falswasser’s 520 days spent in presentence custody as time already served.

A parole eligibility date was set for November 5.
