Fest takes on Brazil flavour
TRADITIONAL Brazilian dances will be one of the performances on offer for people attending the second day of the Townsville Cultural Festival.
The festival, now in its 25th year, celebrates Townsville’s diverse communities and aims to share different cultures, cuisines and traditional customs.
Latin Vibrations director Jodie Coey-braddon said there would be a group of 20 dancers performing on stage tonight, with the organisation having danced at the festival since 2010.
“There are a mixture of styles and we’re going to be on stage for 30 minutes,” she said.
“We will be performing the samba, a bit of salsa and bachata.
“There’s going to be a brand new dance we’re performing at the cultural fest, it’s a traditional Bra
“We always appreciate the cultural fest crowds who are coming to get a cultural experience and we know they really appreciate the styles that we offer,” she said.
“We’re really excited and ready to step out with big smiles and our newly sequined leotards that are custom made in Brazil.”
Ms Coey-braddon said the preparation for tonight’s performance had been relaxed, as the dance studio had come off the back of other routines.
“We’re ready to step on our stage … and to see everyone smile and have fun together,” she said.
Townsville Intercultural Centre executive director Dr Farvardin Daliri said more than 25,000 people attended the event last year, and he was expecting even more this year.
“It’s inspiring for me and for newly arrived migrants as well as established communities in Townsville,” he said.
