Events fit well with city’s vibe

-

THIS really is the time of year where Townsville shines brightest.

There were thousands of people out and about enjoying the weather and myriads of events on offer at the weekend. Thousands of people raced in the Townsville Triathlon and Multisport Festival on both days and it continues next weekend.

Hotels along The Strand had no vacancy signs up as hundreds of people came to the city for the chance to race in the triathlon.

It was a pretty amazing event, with so many people of different abilities giving the event a crack and staying fit.

Events like this, the same as the Townsville Running Festival earlier this month, have a real feelgood vibe about them.

People are out and doing something healthy and it rubs off on everyone.

The Townsville Cultural Fest and North Queensland Elite Rodeo were the other two major events on this weekend.

They both cater to completely different demographics but that’s the best thing about the city at this time of the year; there is no shortage of things to do.

With picture-perfect weather at the moment, Townsville’s event season is in full swing.

It’s been a huge two months for the city, with the North Australian Festival of Arts one of the highlights.

It’s important there is a focus on events in this city. Living regionally providing plenty to do inspires a love for where you live. At this time of the year there is a lot of love for Townsville.

Servo plan spells court mess

CLEARLY new businesses and developments in the city are welcome but they have to be in the right places.

The service station planned for close to the Palmer St dining precinct is a case in point. Yes, there is a need for these types of businesses closer to the CBD but having one so close to restaurants is questionable. The council rejected the idea and now it’s going to end up in court – in another messy situation.
