Legend’s farewell not ideal
THE Cowboys’ season from hell took another shocking turn yesterday with revelations club legend Matt Scott had suffered a stroke.
Thankfully the prognosis for Scott is positive, with doctors confident he will make a full recovery.
However, it means the retiring frontrower has played his last game of rugby league for his beloved Cowboys.
His playing career was not meant to end like this. He deserved a send-off befitting of the club legend that he is — playing in front of his adoring fans at 1300SMILES Stadium one last time.
While that is a major disappointment, for Scott and his family it will be an afterthought right now.
His recovery from what was potentially a life-threatening episode will be their priority.
The thoughts of Cowboys supporters and the wider NRL community will be with them at what must be a worrying time.
Clampdown welcomed
THE State Government deserves praise for getting tougher with out-of-control environmental activists.
The Government is proposing $6000 fines and terms of two years in jail for protesters who pull stunts like locking themselves to rail lines and blocking roads by gluing themselves to roads.
The patience of police and the general public has well and truly worn out following their disruptive tactics.
The protesters will claim a victory with news yesterday that engineering firm Aurecon has walked away from working with Adani after being targeted by activists. This, however, will only galvanise opposition to their tactics among the wider community, particularly those in regional areas sweating on the jobs-generating Carmichael mine project.
Hitting these pests with tougher penalties will hopefully cause them to think twice before disrupting hardworking Queenslanders from going about their business, and wasting the time of police.
