Jiu jitsu gym goes for comfort Martialling up rehome
AN existing Brazilian jiu jitsu school, Gracie Barra Townsville, has made a move to Currajong with the new owner Raony Condini kicking a personal goal in taking over the studio.
Mr Condini was the head instructor at the previous location in Garbutt for the entire three years of the business operating in Townsville; now he owns it.
The refurbished jiu jitsu school will be unveiled in just over a week at a VIP memberonly event on August 30. Mr Condini said the opening would reveal the huge 350sq m site, fully airconditioned with 160sq m of premium tatami mats, and a traditional Brazilian barbecue on the house.
“Usually martial arts gyms are in a garage-like building or industrial area; here I can bring jiu jitsu to everyone, straight off Woolcock St,” Mr Condini said.
“The airconditioned gym will be a luxury for students wanting to practise the fastestgrowing martial art in the world.
“Heaps of parking, afterhours healthy meal options for late classes, great coffee next door for parents waiting for children’s classes to finish: it has it all,” he said.
The Gracie Barra motto “Jiu Jitsu for Everyone.”
The studio will provide classes for kids from three years old, women’s self-defence, beginners to advanced competition classes and a circuit-based jiu-jitsu-inspired is body weight class.
Barra Townsville previously located at Turnbull St in Garbutt.
The new studio can found at 4/15 Attlee St Currajong.
Leasing agent at Colliers International Townsville, Ben Wheeler, who completed the deal with colleague Neville Smith, said the site was an ideal space for the jiu jitsu studio.
“We always identified the space as being for fitness or recreational use due to its large, open-plan floorplate,” Mr Wheeler said.
“Gracie Barra Townsville will bring a different but great offering to the centre.
“The ample parking, exposure and central location was also a huge bonus.” Gracie was 3/5-9
