THE alleged murder of Charters Towers man Michael Mccabe happened in an environment of drugs, a court has heard.

According to prosecutors, Mr Mccabe was killed on or about August 15, 2015.

His body was found in September 2015, near Crystal Creek.

Brent Malcolm Huxley is on trial in the Townsville Supreme Court for his alleged murder.

Leonie Maree Doyle, Mr Mccabe’s cousin, is charged with being an accessory after the fact of the murder.

Matthew Luke Horima Rewha is charged with unlawful assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company.

All three guilty.

Mr Mccabe’s uncle Graham Anderson said while being questioned by Crown Prosecutor Greg Cummings that he had spoken with Mr Mccabe not long before he disappeared.

“He mentioned Brent Huxley had been in contact with him and stated to him that him and a couple of other people had only just come up to collect,” Mr Anderson said.

The father of Leonie Doyle, Mr Mccabe’s uncle Gary William Doyle, told the court under crossexamination that his nephew had been living at his partner’s home.

Mr Doyle said he was aware of Mr Mccabe’s drug use, and that his nephew was buying drugs.

A number of witnesses testified in court that Mr Mccabe was an ice user.

Kristen Hakfoort said she would “hang out with him a couple of times a week,” with the two taking drugs together.

“He used needles and wouldn’t do it around me … we would be on drugs together but he wouldn’t do it around me,” she said.

The trial continues before Justice David North today. have pleaded not
