Giants in need of form lift

-

GWS are out to regain some much-needed form before the AFL finals when they wrap up their regular season against Gold Coast today.

The Giants head to Queensland after back-to-back beltings which have dented confidence just at the wrong time of the year.

The last-placed Suns, however, who have lost 17 straight and already have this year’s wooden spoon sewn up, offer the Giants a chance to stop the rot.

“We’ve just got to get back to what we know we’re good at and that’s our contested work,” forward Daniel Lloyd said.

“Just get a bit of flow going before we go into finals. We’re excited about the opportunity to get a bit of form back and we’re looking forward to it.”

Lloyd, who has missed the past three weeks due to a calf niggle, is one of six changes made by Giants coach Leon Cameron to face the Suns.

Jeremy Cameron returns to play his 150th game while ruck Shane Mumford, forward Jeremy Finlayson and defenders

Sam Taylor and Isaac Cumming are the other inclusions.

“I definitely needed a couple of weeks off,” Lloyd said.

“It was definitely in the back of my mind that I wanted to get back and play this game.”

The six come in for injured trio Nick Haynes (throat), Toby Greene (calf) and Dawson Simpson (soreness), while Zach Sproule, Jye Caldwell and Jake Stein have been omitted.

The Suns have made just one change from the team which lost to Hawthorn last weekend. Aaron Young replaces George Horlin-smith for his 100th AFL match, a milestone he’ll share with Suns’ vice-captain Touk Miller. — Ed Jackson
