Interesting to read Sue-belinda’s article today. Could we invoke the Queensland criminal code of 1899, section 61 when dealing with the protesters at the Adani Mine and on Brisbane’s streets? Liz, Bluewater.

Best idea ever for managing prison violence on Sky News on Win (26/8) – feed the prisoners vegan diets. That way they’ll be too weak and listless to be violent, and too busy gnawing at carrots to bother anyone else. Brilliant! Miner, Kelso

Congratulations to Blayne Gibbs and Stacy Rockliff for making it into the National Indoor Cricket League womans grand final round, to be played next weekend, playing for the

Springwood Scorpions. Two Townsville girls going great. Rock 4817.

Orpheus Island Lodge goes green. The resort installed 810 solar panels to produce 80% of its energy. My question is, if it takes that many panels to power one resort, how many panels would it take to run a small city like Townsville? Noting the amount of natural resources it would have taken to make the panels, is this option really that green? I might invest in a candle factory, will make a fortune if Labor gets into power and closes all the coal power plants. Rick M, 4817

It puzzles this old bloke why our three state MP reps are nicknamed “the three amigos; shouldn’t they be known as the three “wise” monkeys or maybe an alternative would be the three blind mice? Nothing to see (or do) here? Geoff Rath

Jan, don’t worry about pigeons in coffee shops, what about the bloody dogs the “beautiful” people drag into them? Boof 4814

Who was the brainless idiot in the black ute who laid the donuts in the middle of the highway at peak hour in a huge cloud of smoke at the crematorium entry after a funeral on Friday afternoon? The only bigger idiots were the idiots under the trees cheering this idiot on. Paul, Alligator Ck.

Money and support from the State Government now for coal and gas projects, but how about some money for building extra cells at Stuart prison men’s, women’s, farm complex and Cleveland Youth

Detention Centre. Got to ease the double up and overcrowding situation in the centres. Dave, 4811

Well said by Doctor Snellgrove. Rides around the world for charity with no worries. But comes back to Townsville and gets his $4000 bike stolen. Pretty much sums up this place. It’s a wonder they didn’t break into his house while he was away. The police do their job, and judges and magistrates are bound by case law to an extent. It’s the government that needs to bring in mandatory sentencing. But instead the politicians promise more police. Nonsensical. They say jail/ gaol time is proven to not deter criminal behaviour. Not so. I’d be interested to see someone steal a car while they are inside prison. Grant, Cranbrook

Rather than the government wasting money on bail houses etc it would be more efficient to have programs similar to the one offered by Alfred Smallwood. No red tape, no high flying providers, a simple but effective program, should be more of them. Kath, Rasmussen

Donald Trump is to be applauded as the first leader of the Western world to attempt to correct the failed economic and social experiment known as globalisation that was supposed to bring the third world up to the first world standards It has definitely achieved this goal but at the expense of the Western world, once the factories and food bowls of the world. Our economies and standards of living will never improve until we begin producing goods increase farming and mining once again even if this means trading mainly among the western nations once again. Doc, Condon

Seriously TEL is the best you can do is hire a bankrupt? Spend our money wisely and get responsible people to run your business Field of dreams articles are full of great memories. Who can forget the roar when big Marty Bella took some of those early hit ups. And when Laurie Spina left Langer for dead and scored in one of the early derbies. Mt Louisa Al. funded by taxpayers. Kath Rasmussen

Re Misty and pelotons, you are spot on, no other vehicles can travel bumper to bumper, it is inherently dangerous and only suited to tracks or closed race courses. Also, the tyres used on race bikes are only suited for tracks or closed courses, every pebble is felt and they are easily punctured. This is the reason bike riders demand the right to ride in the vehicle lane and not in the bike lane. There is less debris so fewer punctures, appropriate tyres would allow them to ride in the bike lane where they would be further from passing cars. Why is this not required, I cannot use slick race tyres on my car or motorcycle. Chris, Rowes Bay.

Misty, Kirwan, you don’t know what you are talking about. KJ. Adale.

Politics is more about stage managing a photo shoot (visual propaganda) than sound policies. Last week the Qld Govt bussed out “workers” real or actors in high vis I’m not sure, to a finished construction site built by Federal funds with Puddleduck donning the mandatory hard hat. Tragic, badly in need of a “softened” image, has a pre-arranged photo shoot of her holding a baby Labor’s state conference. Does this propaganda really work? Pedro, Cranbrook

Main Roads need to make speed limit signs much bigger, no one can read them. Supposed to be 50km/h on Love Lane not 80km/h. Ady 4812

Feral pigeons, miner birds, sparrows, bats, greenies, vegans and politicians all have an uncanny knack of avoiding barriers designed to provide a safe, comfortable, affordable existence. May I suggest a direct, surgical, timely approach.the CBD may take a little longer.

Bazza, Mt Low.

Question MP Scott Stewart, as a layman, how do you measure CO2 that is a gas? Just curious and willing to learn. M J Reynolds, Mt Louisa

Premier Palaszczuk can’t see it, but Jackie

Trad is her greatest enemy within the govt , she will either make a pitch for the top job, or more than likely destroy any slim chance they had of being re elected, the latter would be the best outcome for Qld. Ron Kelso.

Tony Tsimbas — Peter Campion looks at the same web sites and comes away with different facts because, like all denialists, he’s an expert at the art of cherry picking. When scientists report data he dislikes, it’s fake. When they report data he likes, it’s evidence. He never asks himself why the great global warming conspiracy is so inept as to let contradictory data escape. Steve, Belgian Gardens

Agree with fellow Texter, Fri’ 24th, Is there any reason we can’t use a coal fired power station to burn our rubbish, to generate electricity. Could be the old “kill two birds one stone trick”. Just wondering? Bob, Bohle

Deary me. Where do people think the money came from for the poor old farmers. Who have ended up on ABC’S Dream Gardens. Joe Blake

Remarks concerning The NQ Cowboys: This season sure has been (to say the very least) tough. The illness and injuries, poor ref calls at crucial times in a game and the absence of JT... man, it’s been so horrible. Growing up in Melbourne I initially followed the Bulldogs. When Melbourne entered the League I had to switch my allegiance to my home city, and I’m still a proud Storm man. Switch to 2004, I and some of my family moved north to the Ville.

I immediately recognised the impact that the Cowboys had on this great city. Not just through the football but also because of the work these men and women put into NQ communities.

I felt a sense of pride that I had the privilege to work and live in the epicentre of the Cowboys nation. I even worked at the stadium on home game fixture matches serving Bundy draughts to the faithful. The fervent love and backing of a one team one town side was something I had never experienced growing up in the “sporting capital of Australia”.

I grew to love the Cowboys. I grew to love the parochial support they enjoyed. It brought this city together... regardless of who your team was or still is. It was nothing short of infectious. To this day, I’m still a Storm dude, and I will be for life. But, I’ll never forget the Cowboys bringing it up here, nor their crushing loss against Benji and his Tigers, or JT’S swan song win in his last home game... But most of all, as a Storm dude (and feral QLDER in Origin) is Thumper– Matt Scott!

Absolutely a legend that deserves to have himself immortalised in bronze holding the trophy aloft alongside JT. It would be a very worthy tribute to two great men and leaders. Just my two cents. The Minister, 4810.

Paul Green is a brilliant coach! People without a clue, should bite their tongue! He’s a Gentleman, who was coach of premiership Cowboys? Paul Green! The boys have had a horrible run of injuries, how hard do they have to play? The concern he shows for Matt Scott, proves he is a team player.

He was badly injured too and you want more? You go Play! One hit from Klemmer, good night. SEB 4810

With Matt Scott’s retirement it is the end of a great era for us. Matt Bowen. Paul Bowman. Aaron Payne. JT. Tony, 4812

Why do developed countries send their waste to other countries? They have the strongest economics in the world. The answer is simple. Make recycling waste profitable. The leading countries, run on greed. Joe Blake

Just when you thought Ando’s yarns on Saturday couldn’t get any better, along comes the story about the ringer and the bouncer back in the tough old days at Marreba, if laughter is the best medicine in life, I just had three years worth. Ron, Kelso.
