- LEE PEARCE

GREYHOUND racing returns to the Townsville Showgrounds tonight with a twelverace program, highlighted by two feature races the TAB Futurity and the TAB Derby over 498m.

Race 4 is the Bohle Barn Hotel Motel Open over 643m. Shaun’s Entity (4) for Rhonda Essery is the class dog in this field having raced and won over the 600m at Angle Park and Gardens and also over the 643m at Gawler.

This is his first run over the 643m here, and he is well suited with each-way claims.

Looming Lara (6) for Paul Smith is back to her distance and will be the big danger to Shaun’s Entity. Soft Sand (5) for Brad Belford is a renowned sprinter, a middle distance runner, and has had one start over 600m at Albion Park on a Thursday night for a third.

She will be in this for a long way.

Hara’s Skylah (7) for Darren Taylor has been racing in good form over the 520m at Albion Park and Rockhampton, but distance is a query, so watch the market.

Race 7 is the TAB Futurity Final over 498m and has a good field with a number of chances.

Fireball Sam (2) for Clarence Wilcox is having her first start over the distance, but she won her S/T on Thursday night in 28.75, so watch the market. Rose Ali (4) for Taylor is having her first start on the track and over the distance, she is a former South Australian runner with five wins from seven starts over the 512m at Gawler.

She has a second over the 510m at Rockhampton, so watch the market.

Waltzing Danube (5) for Craig Emery is having her first start on the track and over the distance, but has won over the 520m at Ipswich.

She won four straight at Rockhampton over the 510m and has won and placed over the 537m at Darwin.

Lovely Stunner (6) for Robert Lound has had one start over the distance for a second and is a place chance.

Rapid State (8) for Tarquin Neal has had one start over the distance for a win from box one in 28.95, so watch the market.

Race 8 is the TAB Derby Final over 498m. Fanatic (1) for Harold Hovi is having his first run back over the journey since his fall in the Townsville Cup heats. He has a smart 28.56 to his credit and is a big chance of winning this.

Rumble Master (4) for Belford has won over the 520m at Albion Park, and the 484m at Casino, but he is having his first look at the distance, so watch the market.

Oliver Lee (8) for Jay Schafer won last week over the journey in 28.91 and has eachway claims.
