Newspoll, approval rating for Labor leader has done a nose dive. Anthony Albanese’s Labor policies, whatever they might be, yeah nothing happening here so just move on. Anthony, you have missed the start carrying greens on your back, you want to stay in the Park go alone,

Labor Party with policies for the Quite Majority, or stay Lost. Cris, Wulguru

D. Bilton, the people arriving here in 1788 didn’t pay thousands of dollars to come here illegally. They were dragged here kicking and screaming, many dying from the filthy conditions they had to endure. Rob, Kirwan.

I would like to know how the first Aboriginals came to be on this island we call Australia. Did they come by boat, or just spring up out of the soil, like Adam? Ruby, Rasmussen

To all those lefties railing against drugtesting some welfare recipients, pull your heads in. I don’t want my taxes paying for unemployed to get high on drugs and as a consequence reducing their chances of landing a job and getting off Newstart.

Can’t you see that ensuring welfare recipients are drug free will combat homelessness and long-term unemployment? Barney, Belgian Gardens

Woolworths Hermit Park, what’s going on? Lack of basic stock, bread, meats etc. Trolleys left littering the streets on both sides after hours. Seriously need to lift your game. Annoyed shopper, 4812

My biggest criticism of and frustration with O’rourke, Stewart and Harper is how out of touch they are with community sentiment on any issue. Adani before the federal election (what a shock, time to change policy), the juvenile crime nightmare in Townsville for the last five years, and now total silence on Trad not being demoted, but promoted. Are our three state reps politically stupid or just political weaklings? Whichever, they are determined to commit political suicide. Pedro, Cranbrook

I find it hard to believe that Jackie Trad can say “Sorry” and the whole corruption mess is swept under the rug. Does she think that she is an erring teenager? Maybe it is different for you and I. Anyone who is not a crony of the

Premier would get the book thrown at them. Deejay, Rass.

We have had bushfires and droughts for decades and they will continue unless we combat them. So how do we stop them? At the moment one of the problems is the availability of water also extremely hot conditions. Are more dams the answer? Water is the essence of life yet every year it’s wasted. Start harnessing water and turn waste into produce. M J Reynolds, Mt Louisa

Bwahahahah, Tesla owner (TB, 9/9) says “… and it’s nice to be able to have solar panels on your roof and generate your energy for transport”, and “Ninety-five per cent of the charging I do is at home — I leave the car plugged in and every morning it is full”. Sorry mate, unless your solar panels deliver charge at night your Tesla is coal-powered. Miner, Kelso

Myself and three quarters of the other Cowboys members that I know thought here we go again when Paul Green negotiated a generous contract. It had all the characteristics of the Tim Sheens debacle when he got himself a five year multi-million contract only to be sacked and paid out the following year. Here we go again, Green won’t last another full season, leaving years to be paid out. Clearly we’ve learnt nothing at the club. Steve, H/HILL

Sam 4850 — great timing to belittle disasters during a historic bushfire season following a 1-in500-year flood. Which followed Australia’s hottest summer on record. 18 of the world’s 19 hottest years have been this century. We can’t make things better again this century, it will get hotter year on year for the rest of our lives, but how much worse it gets is a choice we can make. Steve, Belgian Gardens

Watched a story on the news that said the Steve Smith got 293 runs in the Ashes Test so the push is to make him captain — why? Does the best bowler or batsman have to be the captain? Why not free that person to do what they do best without other responsibilities? Warren4814 banks are suggesting those who are suffering from mortgage stress should contact them to discuss the situation. Something is wrong, if with the present record low interest rates you are suffering mortgage stress, you are going to be in serious trouble if the interest rates do a U turn and head north. Ron Kelso.

Drug tests for welfare recipients. Great. Don’t stop there. Drug test parliamentarians and public servants as well. You’re all on public funds!!! Stevo 4812

I hear there are calls to demolish the old courthouse in Townsville. As much as I support local contractors I certainly hope this goes to a southern group. Considering that the last time public buildings were demolished in North Queensland the work was carried out by a Palm Island group and this cost taxpayers $30 million and then we still had to rebuild it. Doc Condon

Jenny wants us to talk up the city, Sorry you can’t escape reality that Townsville has become a crime ridden, untidy, depressed and decaying city. ZRM 4814

Climate activists crying about the sentence. No one is above the law, and the find is suitable for the loss to Queensland Rail, GO home, we don’t need doomsdays victims for Victoria, Cris Wulguru

Reading about the State Government’s lack of action on the New Ackland Coal mine proves they learned nothing from the Federal election, and care little about their traditional support, the worker. Most Labor govt members wouldn’t know what work was, and when even the CFMMEU think they’re on the nose, you’d think the light bulb would come on. But no, keep making country visits wearing hard hats and grinning inanely, but Puddleduck can’t even stay in Qld during the awful fire emergency. Roll on the election! Ags Hermit Pk

Brisbane Lions, never count your chickens before they are hatched. Tiger Lil, Kelso

A warning to all people who are teaching Lplaters. They are not allowed to tow trailers.

Have seen a fair few around town recently. Amazed 4817

Thank you to the TCC library staff for introducing me to Kanopy and RB Digital. Free movies and magazines with your library membership. Do yourself a favour and visit your local library. You’d be surprised how things have changed. Thanks guys. A big Thumbs up. Steve B. Hermit Park, 4812

Well there you have it. After reading the texts and letters about the free-to-air TV a great game of AFL ruined by bloody commercial after commercial during the game. Thanks Ch7 you have lost me. M J Reynolds Mt Louisa

Car thefts, house break ins, old ladies bag snatches, carjackings, all so common now everyone knows a victim. Govt response soft sentencing, detention last resort, revolving doors syndrome, bail houses fiasco, breach of bail not an offence, Captain Precious dummy spits when the Bulletin has the audacity to report on crime. Want more? How about Protected Admissions Scheme where the not so little darlings don’t even face court. That’ll keep the stats looking better! And Bne’s 3 reps in T’ville continue to be Puddle’s Puppets. Pedro Cranbrook

Shame on every texter and letter writer, who self-righteously shouts out for the Biloela Tamil family to “Go back to where they come from.” You’re all acting like racists, and smug racists at that. These people have showed they can be model citizens of Biloela, settled in quite nicely, and the townsfolk dearly want them back. The main thing is, they had a genuine go, became part of the town, until the federal government pulled the plug on them. Regardless of whether they came by boat, or flew here, they have a right to a decent life, in the land of the fair go. After all, weren’t we boat people at one time? What about the First Fleet, in 1788? D. Bilton, W/end

So it’s the anti corruption reforms that are stopping progress, nothing to do with the fact that all the councillors could not vote on the Upper Ross Coles development due to conflict of interest? Their interest should be the people living in that area, not taking money from developers for their campaigns we need them working for the rate payers not the companies that give them donations. SJ, Kelso

Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe, calling for major spending on infrastructure including rail, bridges and roads. Our PM disagrees, yeah nothing happening here as usual. Move on, not this time. Dams and reliable cheaper electricity have to be started Now for Tomorrow. It doesn’t matter what party you belong to just start working together, definitely no standout politicians in any party that will say NO to loonies and start building not planning, just another reality show. Cris, Wulguru.

Laurence Lancini and others are spot on when they say Townsville has never been worse economically as it is now. My house at Aitkenvale was worth $350,000 10 years ago and now its only worth $250,000 I blame the council for most of this situation. Look at how many challenges there are in the local planning courts because the council have either knocked back a development application or heavily regulated it. Many developers just go to cairns or the Whitsundays as it’s just too hard here. Thomas. West End 4810

Shari Tagliabue — a dedicated police helicopter would be as useful as a dedicated police hovercraft if there’s nothing for it to do. The two current choppers are only needed once a month for police work. The LNP’S proposed walloper whirlybird would spend most of its time in mothballs, only being dusted off to give joy rides to pollies on flak-jacketed photo ops. Steve, Belgian Gardens
